Short Term SICS and Phaco Training

 We offer 4 weeks short-term specially designed unique stepwise training program in SICS & Phacoemulsification. You may opt for advanced Phaco training as well. One very vital aspect of learning Phaco in four weeks is that you need to be an ECCE surgeon who is in touch with surgery.  Our specially designed stepwise short term training includes basic techniques of Phacoemulsification in structured manner through video assisted dedicated lectures by senior consultants, live surgery demonstrations & supervised hand on training up to 10 cases. You can get more number of cases if you are a quick learner. We offer direct one to one teaching & supervised hands on sessions, where trainer will be giving you feedback. Facility for video recording of surgeries will be made available. With prior intimation, you may extend the training period by paying an extra cost. The training is available throughout the year. 


  • Phaco Training Programme Schedule and Modules

1) 2 days video assisted lectures in structured manner by senior expert Phaco surgeons  

2) Live demonstration of basic Phaco technique on different grade of nucleus by an expert Phaco surgeon.  

3) Hands on under guidance & supervision of an expert Phaco surgeon.  

4) While the trainee will perform the surgery, the experienced consultant and teacher will be stand by to guide the trainee at each step    and to take over surgery if there is a likelihood of a problem.  

5) Each surgery will be video recorded and will be reviewed along with the experienced surgeon.

Phaco course is divided in 3 modules:  


  • Module 1        

The aim of this module is to make a person aware about the procedure of Cataracts and introduction to Tunnel  

1)  Incision (Scleral Tunnel /Side Port).  

2)   Capsulorhexis.  

3)   An Introduction to clear Corneal Tunnel.  

4)   Hydro Procedures.  

5)   Nucleus rotation.  

6)   General Introduction & Observation of Phaco surgery.  

7)   Phacodynamics.


  • Module 2  

The aim and the objective of this level are to make a person reasonable capable of doing a normal Phaco procedure (Grade 2 and Grade 3 Cataracts).  

1)   Understanding a Phaco Procedure.  

2)   Understanding the machine concept and design.  

3)   Principles of Phacoemulsification.  

4)   Theory & practical aspects of Sculpting.  

5)   Sculpting (preparing a Groove)  

6)   Cracking of Nucleus.  

7)   Emulsification (eating up the cracked parts)  

8)   Automatic I/A.  

9)   IOL Placement in the bag.


  • Module 3  

(Advanced Course) only for surgeons well trained in basic Phacoemusification surgery.  

1) The aim of this module is to teach surgeons the advanced levels of Phacoemulsification.  

2) Principles of doing advanced Cataracts.  

3) Direct chop technique.  

4) The principles explained as to why and how to operate a mature/brown/small pupil Cataract.  


  • Prerequisites for Training  

1)   Anybody with basic skills in Extra Capsular Cataract Extraction can undergo training.  

2)   Experience and Skill in performing Capsulorhexis would provide an added advantage.  

3)   Attitude and Interest to Learn.  

4)   Surgeons with access to Phaco Machines

LONG TERM SICS AND PHACO TRAINING

Long Term SICS and Phaco Training is for 3 months. Trainee has to work in hospital from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. All trainee surgeons will be certified after successful completion of the course.
